On March 15th, 2016, Neil Justin, then a first officer, visited three schools on the island of St. Lucia to speak with the students.  A local aviation enthusiast group, Aviation Club St. Lucia and Beyond, expressed admiration over his accomplishments as someone of local heritage successfully achieving his dreams of becoming a pilot, and wanted him to share his story with the youth. Neil was happy to talk about his aviation career, but he also wanted to help the students identify what they wanted to be when they grew into adulthood and how they could achieve those dreams. Though it was a long day of traveling and speaking, Neil thoroughly enjoyed pouring into the students, conversing with the teachers and principals, and inspiring many who hadn’t thought of aviation as a career. That day was the beginning of several trips to the island over two years to visit the local schools. Eventually, other colleagues joined Neil Justin with his vision to impact the youth of the island.

The generated interest among the students made Neil realize that traveling to all of St. Lucia’s 90+ schools would be rather taxing on his body, and so with a collaboration with St. Lucia’s Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Tourism, and the St. Lucian Air and Sea Ports Authority (SLASPA), Neil secured two venues that the area schools would send their students to both hear presentations and experience a computer-based flight simulator that he would bring with him. This symposium was dubbed the “Inspiring the Youth” project. Neil brought along with him a team of people from varied backgrounds – flight attendants, pilots, air traffic controllers, law enforcement officers, lawyers, and business owners – to instill within the students their unique perspectives and stories. Neil donated his own time and money to pour into this project. The impact was undeniable, and Neil thought of expanding it to other islands in the Caribbean.

When the global COVID-19 pandemic took place between 2019 and 2023, however, Neil Justin was faced with a pause in his goals. Yet, the restrictions on travel, while hampering his symposium projects, did not extinguish his desire to inspire the upcoming generations to achieve their career dreams and make a positive impact on the world. The downtime helped Neil Justin strategize a way to do that sustainably while having an international reach. From that strategizing, Live2Soar is born.
